QR & RFID WAREHOUSE TRACEABILITY

QR & RFID-based warehouse management for end-to-end material traceability.

The client needed visibility across raw materials, production, quality inspection, rework, finished goods, and dispatch. Aeologic designed a QR code-based material traceability solution with mobile operations, mother-child batch linking, FIFO inventory management, dashboards, and audit trails.

In short

Aeologic designed a QR code-based material traceability and inventory visibility solution for the client. Unique QR codes, mobile-based scanning, mother-child batch relationships, FIFO inventory logic, dashboards, and audit trails provide visibility across the complete manufacturing material journey.

  • Client Corporate / Automotive Manufacturer
  • Problem Manual material movement with incomplete batch-level traceability
  • Solution QR traceability + mobile scanning + batch linking + FIFO
  • Deployment On-premise warehouse and shop floor deployment
The Challenge

Manual material movement made end-to-end traceability difficult.

The client's material movement across raw materials, production, quality inspection, rework, finished goods, and dispatch was tracked through largely manual processes. This made it difficult to trace a batch backward to its source materials or forward through production and dispatch.

Without batch-level traceability, exceptions and quality issues were harder to isolate, while inventory visibility across process stages remained incomplete. The client partnered with Aeologic Technologies to design a solution that could digitize end-to-end material movement and provide complete visibility across the manufacturing process.

Material Visibility — Before Aeologic
  • 01

Material movement across raw materials, production, quality, rework, finished goods, and dispatch was largely manual.

  • 02

Batch-level backward and forward traceability was difficult to establish.

  • 03

Exceptions and quality issues were harder to isolate because process history was incomplete.

  • 04

Inventory visibility across manufacturing stages remained incomplete.

Objectives

What the deployment had to achieve.

01

Digitize end-to-end material movement across raw materials, production, quality, rework, finished goods, and dispatch.

02

Enable real-time tracking through unique QR codes and mobile-based operations.

03

Establish batch-level traceability by linking child material bags to a single mother bag.

04

Introduce FIFO management and improve inventory visibility across the process.

05

Lay the foundation for future Industry 4.0 integration.

The Solution

A connected material journey from identification to inventory control.

01
IDENTIFY

Unique QR-coded material tracking

Every material batch, from raw material through finished goods, receives a unique QR code that establishes a digital identity for movement through the manufacturing process.

02
CAPTURE

Mobile-based shop floor operations

Warehouse and shop floor personnel use mobile scanning devices to capture material movements at each process stage, creating digital records as operations happen.

03
CONNECT

Mother-child batch relationships

Child material bags are associated with their originating mother bag so the system can maintain the relationship between source material and subsequent batches.

QR traceability across process stages

Unique QR identifiers provide a digital reference for each material batch as it moves through the manufacturing lifecycle.

Mobile-first movement capture

Mobile scanning devices allow warehouse and shop floor teams to record material events directly within their existing operational environment.

Connected batch genealogy

Mother-child linking creates connected batch genealogy, supporting backward and forward visibility across the material chain.

FIFO inventory engine

First-In-First-Out logic is embedded into inventory management so stock consumption follows the required sequence.

Dashboards and audit visibility

Dashboards, audit trails, and exception monitoring provide operational visibility while preserving a record of material and inventory activity.

Challenges & Solutions

Four specific manufacturing traceability problems, four targeted fixes.

Challenge

Tracing materials across multiple linked batches

A single mother bag could split into many child bags across production, complicating traceability.

Fix

Mother-child batch linking

We built a mother-child linking model so any child bag can be traced back to its source and forward through its full journey.

Challenge

Digitizing movement without disrupting shop floor operations

Manual paper logs couldn't simply be removed without a fast, reliable replacement for operational teams.

Fix

Mobile QR scanning

We designed mobile-based QR scanning so staff can record material movement as part of their existing workflow.

Challenge

Enforcing FIFO across diverse material types

Manual stock usage didn't reliably follow FIFO principles, creating dependence on operator decisions.

Fix

FIFO-driven inventory engine

We built FIFO logic directly into the inventory engine so the system determines which stock should be used first.

Challenge

Surfacing exceptions before they escalate

Deviations in process or inventory often went unnoticed until later, making timely intervention difficult.

Fix

Exception monitoring and audit trails

We added exception monitoring and audit trails to flag deviations in real time and preserve the related activity history.

FAQ

Common questions about this warehouse management solution.

Find quick answers about QR-based traceability, batch linking, FIFO inventory management, mobile operations, and Industry 4.0 readiness.

How does QR-based material traceability work?

Each material batch is assigned a unique QR code. Shop floor and warehouse personnel scan the code using mobile devices as the material moves through raw materials, production, quality inspection, rework, finished goods, and dispatch.

What is mother-child batch traceability?

Mother-child batch traceability links multiple child material bags to a single mother bag. This creates a connected material history, allowing a child bag to be traced backward to its source and forward through subsequent manufacturing stages.

How does the system enforce FIFO inventory management?

The inventory engine applies First-In-First-Out logic so older stock is prioritized before newer stock. This moves FIFO enforcement into the system rather than depending entirely on manual operator decisions.

What operations are covered by the warehouse management solution?

The solution covers material movement across raw materials, production, quality inspection, rework, finished goods, and dispatch, with mobile QR scanning, batch relationships, FIFO inventory logic, dashboards, audit trails, and exception monitoring.

How does the system support future Industry 4.0 integration?

The digitized traceability, inventory, audit, and process data foundation provides a basis for future Industry 4.0 integration and connected manufacturing initiatives.
